University Don Slams Ebonyi Commissioner Over N2 Million Facebook Giveaway

Head of Department of Mass Communication at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Dr. Joe Chukwu has criticized the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Oguzor Offia Nwali, for announcing a N2 million giveaway on Facebook.
The commissioner had announced the giveaway yesterday, stating that the funds had already been disbursed to a social media man, Polycarp Obinna, for disbursement to the beneficiaries.
According to the commissioner, the giveaway was intended to show appreciation for the support of his Facebook community.
However, Dr. Chukwu has questioned the ethics of the giveaway, describing it as “unethical” and wondering why a public officer would use public funds for personal publicity stunts.
“Honestly, with all due respect, I think it is unethical to do this, Honourable Commissioner”.
“You are a public officer and should not be seen as a show promoter with public funds. Remain blessed,” Dr. Chukwu wrote in response to the commissioner’s post.
The commissioner’s giveaway has raised eyebrows. As at the time of this publication, the commissioner’s post has garnered significant attention on Facebook, with 1.3k likes, 1.5k comments, and 49 shares.
