University Don Hails First Bank’s ATM Card Renewal Innovation

Dr. Joe Chukwu, Head of the Department of Mass Communication at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, has publicly commended First Bank Nigeria for what he described as a groundbreaking self-service innovation in ATM card issuance.
In a Facebook post that has since drawn wide attention, Dr. Chukwu recounted his experience at one of First Bank’s branches in Abakaliki, where he had gone to renew his expired ATM card.
“I was surprised, pleasantly surprised today by the First Bank,” he wrote. “I had reckoned that it would be a day’s job like was usually the case… That was not to be.”
To his amazement, the process required no forms or long waiting hours. Instead, he simply used a self-service machine, and within two minutes, a new ATM card was issued.
“No filling of form but just punching a machine and within two minutes the machine ‘vomited’ a brand new ATM! It was self-service,” he noted enthusiastically.
Dr. Chukwu praised the bank for its efficiency and customer-focused innovation, concluding, “Kudos to First Bank for this innovation. YOU ARE TRULY THE FIRST!!”
