Sokoto Govt to Improve Ramadan Feeding Programme as Governor Commisions Renovated Mosque

The Sokoto State Government has announced plans to enhance its annual Ramadan feeding programme, ensuring more indigent people benefit. Governor Ahmed Aliyu made this known at the commissioning of the remodeled Ruggar Wauru Jumu’at Mosque in Sokoto on Friday, 8th of February, 2025.

The Governor stated that preparations for the 2025 Ramadan feeding programme are in full swing. He assured that the government is seeing to the improvement of the quality of meals provided at feeding centres across the state.

Aliyu also disclosed plans to expand the feeding centres to areas where they currently do not exist. This, he said, is to support the needy, vulnerable, and less-privileged in society during Ramadan.

In his speech, the Governor buttressed his administration’s commitment to renovating and constructing mosques and Islamiyya schools across the state for the benefit of the people.

According to him, several Jumu’at mosques have been completed, including Sheikh Musa Lukuwa, Tahsinul Qura’an, Runjin Sambo, and Sultan Maccido, among others. He added that more are currently undergoing renovation.

Aliyu stated that these projects are part of his campaign promises to promote Islamic affairs in Sokoto. He reassured the public that his administration remains dedicated to supporting religious activities.

The Governor also announced a monthly maintenance imprest of ₦300,000 to ₦500,000 for the 90 Jumu’at mosques in Sokoto metropolis. This is to ensure they remain comfortable for worshippers.

Additionally, the government has introduced monthly allowances for Imams, Deputy Imams, and Muazzins of Jumu’at mosques, recognizing their role in Islamic propagation in the state.

On the reactivated Hisbah Board, Aliyu noted that significant progress is being made in curbing social vices. He assured that Hisbah operates independently, with full support from the government.

Other dignitaries at the event included the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Sani Mai Hulla, and representatives of the Sultan of Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaid.

The Emir of Argungu, Ismaila Muhammad Mera, also attended. Speakers commended Governor Aliyu’s efforts and urged the people to support his administration’s developmental agenda.

The event concluded with a two-raka’at Jumu’at prayer at the newly remodeled mosque. Special prayers were offered for Allah’s continued guidance and protection for Governor Aliyu.
