Police to Enforce Mandatory Third-Party Insurance from February 1

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the enforcement of the Mandatory Third-Party Insurance policy starting February 1, 2025, as directed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
This was contained in a statement signed by the force’s public relations officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the enforcement aims to enhance road safety and ensure vehicle owners comply with insurance regulations to protect themselves and others in case of accidents.
The police have warned that failure to obtain valid Third-Party Insurance will attract strict penalties, including fines, in accordance with existing traffic laws.
All vehicle owners nationwide must have valid insurance, and those without it are advised to obtain coverage immediately to avoid any form of embarrassment or legal action.
The Inspector-General has also instructed all State Commissioners of Police to oversee the enforcement, empowering officers to conduct checks and apply penalties for non-compliance.
