Ondo Government Declares Death Penalty By Hanging For Kidnappers

The Ondo State Government has declared that anyone found guilty of kidnapping will now face the death penalty by hanging.
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo (SAN), made this known during a press briefing on Saturday following the State Executive Council meeting in Akure, the state capital.
Ajulo also revealed that properties or buildings used in carrying out kidnapping activities will be demolished, but only after the necessary legal processes have been followed in court.
He noted that the state’s anti-kidnapping law would soon be reviewed by the Ondo State House of Assembly to formally prescribe the death penalty for convicted kidnappers.
Ajulo added that the government is equally worried about the rise in cult-related activities and is prepared to take firm steps to address the issue.
“The governor is committed to the rule of law and will not adopt approaches that bypass judicial procedures as seen in some other states,” he said.
He further emphasized the importance of maintaining security and order to encourage investor confidence in Ondo.
“We have investors coming into the state, and part of our responsibility is to assure them that both their lives and investments are safe,” Ajulo said.
