Daddy Freeze Reveals He Received Death Threats for Criticizing Nigerian Pastors

Media personality Daddy Freeze has revealed that he and his family received death threats over a decade ago because of his outspoken criticism of Nigerian Christian clerics.
Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Freeze explained that his bold stance against church practices made him a target, but it also inspired many Nigerians to start holding religious leaders accountable.
He traced his journey of criticism back to his personal experience with excommunication after his divorce, which he said pushed him to study the Bible more deeply.
“After my divorce, my pastor tried to reconcile me and my ex-wife, but I told him I wasn’t interested. I was then excommunicated — I couldn’t serve in church or sit in the front row,” he said. “I felt rejected. Jesus didn’t condemn the woman who had been married five times and was with a sixth man. Meanwhile, I had just one divorce and I was treated like a murderer.”
Freeze said the rejection made him walk away from organized religion. “I stopped going to church and began reading the Bible in its original languages. The more I studied, the more things stopped making sense. You can’t do that for a year and still believe what many Nigerian pastors are teaching.”
He added, “I was insulted, called names, and received serious death threats — even my family wasn’t spared. That was 10 years ago. But the work I did helped open people’s eyes. Today, more Nigerians are questioning what’s going on in their churches.”
