NYSC Cleans Up Lagos for Healthier Living

In alignment with the NYSC Director General’s proclamation to observe environmental sanitation exercise across the 774 Local Government Areas of the nation, the National Youth Service Corps in Lagos, has carried out the exercise in all the Local Government Areas of the State.

The exercise which was observed in the 24 Local Government Areas of Lagos State, was carried out to sensitize indigents on the need for good hygiene and cleanliness, especially during raining season which may be a precursor for environmental mishap such as flooding and spread of epidemics.

NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, who flagged-off the event at Ipodo Market, Ikeja, appreciated the presence of everyone for the awareness and sanitation exercise. She appreciated Ikeja Local Government Area Executive Chairman and all the collaborating partners for the actualization of the sanitation and environmental awareness programme. She urged the marketers to cultivate the habit of maintaining clean environment for the benefit of all.

Also speaking at the event, the Iyalaje of Ipodo Market, Mrs Samsurat Adisa, appreciated the corps members for the sanitary work. The Iyalaje who spoke plainly in Yoruba, prayed for the success of the corps members in their endeavours, emphasizing that they are already a pride to their parents.

Meanwhile, the sanitarian officer of the Environmental Health Services of Ikeja Local Government, Oluwakemi Daniel, has said the maintainance of good hygiene in the environment is a collective responsibility which cannot left to one person, she urged the market community to join hands to ensure cleanliness in order to rid off diseases and epidemics.

Also, aligning with the sanitation officer, some market women have in an interview during the event, called on other marketers to join forces to ensure cleanliness of the environment to avoid environmental diseases. They appreciated the corps members for the initiative of attending to the market sanitary needs.

As part of the programme, the State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, led other officials, corps members, as well as other marketers to clean the some areas of the market while bagging the refuses.
This is done as a demonstration of cleaning the environment and maintaining good hygiene.
