NHIA Encourages Corps Members to Utilize Health Insurance for a Secure Future
An official of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mrs Chika Amahalu has urged corps members to make use of the health insurance provision available to them through their service year.
She made this known during a lecture for the 2023 Batch “C” Stream 2 corps members about the GIFSHIP-N programme at the NYSC Lagos orientation camp Iyana-Ipaja. Featuring an insightful teaching approach.
Mrs. Amahalu introduced the corps members to the GIFSHIP-N program, which stands for Group, Individual, Family, Social Health Insurance Program, and National Youth Service Corps.
In her address, Mrs. Amahalu emphasized that health insurance is mandatory for all citizens and legal residents of Nigeria.
Remarkably, mobilized and serving corps members are entitled to this invaluable health insurance coverage. She revealed that Lagos HMO provides comprehensive antenatal and postnatal care for pregnant corps members, as well as coverage for newborn babies up to three months old.
Further speaking about the importance of registering for health insurance, Mrs Amahalu highlighted the unpredictability of unforeseen circumstances and the financial relief health insurance provides in times of medical emergencies.
Corps members were urged to fulfil their roles in accessing the health services by registering for the insurance, visiting the hospital when sick, and carefully selecting their healthcare facility.
In conclusion, Mrs Amahalu outlined the benefit packages offered by the NHIA, including in-patient and out-patient care, secondary healthcare services, and access to tertiary healthcare providers. Additionally, she highlighted the two types of exclusions; total exclusion (such as pandemics and drug abuse) and partial exclusion (where certain percentages of medical expenses are covered)
