Lagos Suspends Planning Approvals Along Coastal Road Corridor

The Lagos State Government has announced the immediate suspension of planning approvals along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road corridor.

In a statement issued Monday from Alausa, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, said the decision was taken to reassess the impact of the project on the state’s physical development framework.

Olumide explained that the coastal highway project has already affected key planning initiatives, including the recently concluded Ode-Omi Action Area Plan, and ongoing projects like the Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan and the Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan.

“Given the disruption caused by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, it has become necessary to pause and re-evaluate our Development Plans to avoid further distortion now or in the future,” he stated. “Planning approvals in the affected axis will therefore be suspended until further notice.”

The commissioner also directed the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority to enforce the suspension until a new directive is issued.

He assured residents that the state remains committed to ensuring a well-structured, inclusive, and sustainable built environment, and is prepared to harness the full benefits of the inter-state coastal highway project.
