Kuwait announces Sheikh Meshal Al-Sabah as the new Emir

Kuwait’s new emir, Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah, was named following the death of the former Emir on Saturday.
According to a television broadcast, Kuwait’s cabinet has named Sheikh Meshal as the new Emir of Kuwait.
Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah died at the age of 86
According to foreign media, Kuwait’s royal court announced his death on Saturday after spending 3 years in power.
“With great sadness and sorrow, we mourn the death of Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait,” said a statement aired on Kuwaiti state television.
State television had cut its regular programming and switched to a broadcast of Koranic recital before the announcement.
Sheikh Nawaf in November was admitted in the hospital due to an emergency health problem. He was later declared in stable condition.
Born in 1937, Sheikh Nawaf was the fifth son of Kuwait’s late ruler from 1921 to 1950 Sheikh Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
