Ifon-Orolu Community Condemns Attack by Ilobu Residents

The Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union has condemned an attack by Ilobu residents on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, which left two people injured and displaced several residents of Odoje and Golden Gate areas in Ifon.

The attack which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday despite the Osun State Government’s ongoing efforts to resolve the Opapa buffer zone dispute has left two people injured by gunshot.

This was contained in a Press Statement by the Ifon Progressive Union and signed by Prince Jide Akinyooye. The Union described the incident as a blatant disregard for human life and government directives. The union called for immediate government intervention to hold those responsible accountable. 

Speaking with Asiwaju Media’s correspondent, the Publicity Secretary of the Union, Basit Olatunji confirmed the sustainance of gunshot injuries by two people from the Ifon-Osun Community. 

“In relation to the unprovoked attack of Ilobu against the people of Ifon-Osun late yesterday night, it is true, as you gathered, that two of our people were shot. However, they are currently receiving treatment and I can assure you that they are getting better,” he noted.

“We want to put it on record that despite the fact that our people in the affected  are still under siege; His Royal Majesty Oba Alayeluwa Peter Oluwole Ipadeola Akinyooye III; the Aremo-Obatala of the Universe and Olufon of Ifon-Orolu Kingdom has continued to maintain that Oroluans should not take laws into their hands,” the statement reads further.

The Union acknowledged the state government’s role in resolving the crisis but urged it to take more decisive steps. They appealed for stronger measures to ensure lasting peace between the Ifon and Ilobu communities who have been at loggerheads over land dispute for years.
