BREAKING: Reno Omokri Backs Tinubu’s State Police Push Amid Benue Killings

Following renewed attacks in Benue State, Nigerian socio-political activist and author, Reno Omokri, has thrown his full support behind President Bola Tinubu’s call for the establishment of state police, describing it as the “right solution” to the deepening security crisis across the country.

Reacting to comments made by the President—delivered through the Minister of Defence—Omokri said the time for theoretical debate on state policing is over, and urged all levels of government to act swiftly.

“The debate over state police is no longer theoretical. It is grounded in the daily fears and lived anxieties of Nigerians: farmers afraid to tend their fields, traders unsure of safe passage, and communities abandoned to self-help,” the President stated.

Echoing the sentiment, Omokri praised Tinubu for showing what he described as “real leadership” by offering a practical solution instead of mere condolences.

“This President has demonstrated leadership by not just issuing condolences but also coming up with workable solutions. That is leadership,” Omokri said in a statement posted on his social media handles.

He further urged the National Assembly, State Assemblies, National Economic Council, and National Council of State to back the President’s proposal without delay.

“We need a new approach. We cannot keep doing the same thing and expect different results,” he said.

Omokri emphasized that grassroots security, through community and state policing, would bring stability to vulnerable areas like Yelwata in Benue and the wider Middle Belt region, which have faced repeated attacks by armed groups.

He called on Nigerians to unite around the proposal to save more lives from bandits, terrorists, secessionists, and criminal gangs.

The renewed debate over state police comes as Nigeria faces rising insecurity in rural and semi-urban communities, with conventional policing stretched beyond its limits. The Tinubu administration’s proposal could signal a turning point—if implemented—in Nigeria’s decentralized approach to internal security.
