“Be the Change Nigeria Needs,” NOA Urges Corps Members at Lagos Camp

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on corps members to rise to the challenge of nation-building by being the change Nigeria urgently needs. This call was made during an address at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp as part of the ongoing 2025 Batch “A” Stream II Orientation Course.
Representing the NOA, Engineer Idara Ntewo emphasized that the agency is not just a government department but a national movement focused on shaping a better Nigeria through responsible and engaged citizens.
Drawing from the National Charter, Ntewo outlined that both government and citizens have critical roles in fostering national development. He explained that the Charter is anchored on two key components: the Seven Responsibilities of the Nigerian Government to its Citizens and the Seven Responsibilities of Citizens to the Nation.
“Every corps member has a vital role to play in this vision,” he said. “Whether it’s helping a neighbour or standing up for what is right, your small actions can have a powerful ripple effect in your host communities.”
Ntewo decried the increasing societal trend of bystander apathy, particularly the practice of recording accidents or injuries instead of offering assistance. “We must move from spectators to participants in change. You are uniquely made to make a difference,” he told the corps members.
He further urged corps members to embrace the Community Development Service (CDS) as a valuable platform to contribute meaningfully and grow into responsible leaders.
“You have one year to leave a mark,” Ntewo concluded. “Let that mark reflect the change this country needs.”
