Why Police arrest Portable in Kwara
Portable’s raw talent, erratic behavior, and street credibility have made him a mainstay in the media, not just for his music but for his turbulent encounters with the law.
Popular Nigerian music star, Portable has been arrested by the police in Kwara State.
Confirming Portable’s arrest, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, said the controversial music star’s arrest came after Okunola Saheed, popularly known as Osupa, filed a petition against him.
According to him, Portable was accused of criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive and insulting words.
Ejire-Adeyemi explained that with the weight of the allegations and the evidence presented, the Command had to get a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin.
“Acting on this warrant, operatives from the Command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, 13th April 2025, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25hrs. He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigation.
“Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He is currently in custody, and arrangements are being made to charge him in court without delay.”
According to media reports, Osupa’s team had filed a complaint against Portable, who was adjudged to have used a line Osupa is known for.
In the ever-evolving world of Nigerian pop music, few stars have captivated public attention quite like Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable. Rising to fame in 2021 with his breakout street-hop anthem Zazoo Zeh, featuring Olamide and Poco Lee, Portable has since become both a fan favorite and a controversial figure.
He has been involved in several altercations with authorities, the most notable being his arrest in March 2023 after a dramatic standoff with police officers at his Odogwu Bar in Ogun State. In a widely circulated video, Portable was seen resisting arrest, claiming he was a “federal government liability” who could not be touched. This incident led to his eventual arrest and arraignment for resisting police officers and assaulting a police officer.
Another high-profile case came in April 2023 when he was rearrested over an alleged N14 million debt related to a luxury car deal. The police stated that Portable had purchased a G-Wagon but failed to complete payments. When the car dealer attempted to repossess the vehicle, it reportedly led to a scuffle and property damage, drawing law enforcement back into Portable’s orbit.
While critics question his behavior and legal troubles, others argue that Portable is merely a product of his environment, navigating fame in a country where the lines between rebellion and relevance are often blurred.
