VeryDarkMan Blasts Nollywood Biopic, Accuses Filmmakers of Twisting His Story Without Consent

Controversial Nigerian activist and social commentator, VeryDarkMan, has reacted strongly to a new Nollywood biopic based on his life, expressing deep disappointment over its portrayal of him.
In a lengthy video posted to his Instagram page, he addressed the trending film, which features veteran actor Gentle Jack playing his character. “I have a problem with it,” he said. “To be very honest, I’m not even happy with it. While watching it, I even cringe.”
Though he appreciated the recognition, VeryDarkMan criticized the filmmakers for failing to consult him before creating the project. “Gentle Jack is a legend, no doubt,” he said. “But how do you decide to tell my story without asking me about it? If you had reached out, I would have told you everything. I would have held nothing back—not even the parts of my life people don’t want to hear about.”
He emphasized that the film not only failed to capture his true journey but also distorted details about people close to him, including his associate, Kokopi. He clarified that their relationship began on the same day he received a car gift worth over ₦40 million, and not how it was portrayed in the movie.
Addressing the controversy over funds allegedly mismanaged in his NGO, VeryDarkMan used the moment to clear the air. He praised the EFCC for investigating him and confirming his innocence. “What EFCC did to me, only God will bless them for it,” he said. “Over ₦300 million passed through my NGO, and I never touched a naira of it for personal use. My integrity is intact.”
He urged the public to continue supporting his NGO, noting that funds are still needed for ongoing borehole projects. “That ₦300 million no even reach. We need more. Even if it’s ₦100 or ₦15, just keep sending.”
While he expressed pride in how far he has come and acknowledged the cultural impact that prompted a film about his life, he made it clear that he does not endorse the biopic as it stands. “This biopic no sit well with me,” he said. “And I never sue—but if you like, swear for my papa and mama.”
VeryDarkMan ended his video by reiterating that though he remains controversial, he is not afraid of truth or criticism. “I’m not trying to be a good man. I’m just a real one. If you want to tell my story, do it right.”
