Varsity suspends ex- gov's aide over cultism, As NBM Suspends Two Members

Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State has on Friday suspended a former aide to Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, over alleged (cultism) cult-related activities.

The suspended student, Felix Okemini, recently served as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security (Ebonyi North) before he was relieved of his position on Tuesday.

Okemini, who was recently admitted to study Political Science, was pictured during the university’s matriculation wearing an insignia suspected to belong to a secret cult.

The image (cultism), which circulated on social media, sparked outrage, leading to calls for his removal from both the government and the institution.

Nwifuru, through the Secretary to the State Government, Grace Umezuruike, announced Okemini’s (cultism) dismissal earlier in the week.

Following the controversy, the university, in a letter signed by its Registrar, Dr. Ifeanyi Igwe, on Friday, suspended him indefinitely, citing a breach of the matriculation oath.

The letter read, “The Vice-Chancellor has considered the report on the allegation of cult-related behaviour levelled against you based on the display of cultism as shown on March 14, 2025, during the matriculation ceremony of the university.

“You are hereby informed of your matriculation oath and the fact that cultism and cult-related activities are unacceptable and against the rules and regulations governing students’ activities in the university as well as a security and moral threat to the University Community.

“Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Senate, has directed that you be suspended indefinitely from the university pending the outcome of the investigation of this matter by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee of the university.

“You are, by this letter, hereby suspended from the university.

“This letter conveys the vice chancellor’s directive.”

In a similar development, The Neo Black Movement of Africa (NBM of Africa) has announced the removal of IN Okemini Felix Jango from office and the suspension of two members, IN Okemini Felix Jango and JN Nnanna Nwangele, for six months.

This decision was made by Lord Muta Muta Baruka, Head of Ebonyi Zone, citing the organization’s zero-tolerance policy for gross misconduct.

According to the notice, IN Okemini Felix Jango, who served as Coordinator of the Stakeholders Forum Ebonyi Zone, was removed from office due to allegations of unhealthy activities against the Ebonyi State Government. Both suspended members are required to hand themselves over to law enforcement authorities to answer charges preferred against them by the state government.

As stated in the notice, “IN Okemini Felix (Jango) who doubles as the Coordinator Stakeholders Forum Ebonyi Zone is hereby removed from office with immediate effect, he is to hand over all properties of NBM in his possession to the CP Stakeholders forum.”

The notice further emphasized, “One hour FM and 7 JD by the orders of the Regional Head (RH) is hereby pronounced for both suspended lords. Reason for Suspension: For being a suspect in unhealthy activities against the Ebonyi State Government.”

The organization emphasized its commitment to upholding its values and reputation, stating that any behavior contributing to reputational disrepute would not be tolerated. As stated in the notice, “NBM of Africa is an Organization with Zero Tolerance to Gross Misconduct. We are intolerant of any behavior that may contribute to our organization’s reputational disrepute.”

NBM of Africa has also warned that any member harboring the suspended individuals would face similar sanctions. The notice stated, “The same fate will be met by any Lord who harbors them for any reason.”

This move by NBM of Africa demonstrates the organization’s efforts to maintain discipline and adhere to its principles. As an organization committed to social justice and equality, NBM of Africa has taken steps to address internal misconduct and uphold its values.
