Wife rejects $4,000 remote job because it makes her husband uncomfortable

A wife has reportedly turned down a remote job offer worth $4,000 per month because her husband felt it could cause discomfort and potential issues in their marriage.
The story was shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) by social media influencer @jon_d_doe, who revealed that the woman is a PhD student and had recently secured a high-paying remote role based in Nigeria.
According to the influencer, her husband, a financially stable businessman with a master’s degree, expressed disapproval over the job, despite its lucrative offer.
“A married man whose wife is a PhD student… she just got a job offer that would pay her $4,000 per month. But she’ll be working from Nigeria,” the post read. “The man has a master’s degree and is doing well financially. He doesn’t want her to take the job.”
In a follow-up post, the influencer stated that the woman agreed to turn down the offer, citing the husband’s concerns that the job might make her uncomfortable and lead to problems in their relationship.
The post sparked wide reactions online, with many users taking to the comment section to share their diverse opinions on the matter.
See some reactions below:
@Jidekuje: “Hmmmm. If he knows he has a problem with her getting a job, why is he in support of her doing a PhD? If you can’t live with the thought of your wife earning more than you, you shouldn’t encourage actions that would enable her do so. His ego is at play here.”
@trapniggmadeit: “Good morning Agba. If his wife decides to take the job against his will, can he manage the situation by running his home solely on his income and not caring about his wife’s money? That way his wife can’t set him up for failure in the future. Woman money no sweet.”
@IfeanyiDeclan: “What works for the man might not work for another. That is the irony of life in marriage. Any man who marries a bad woman is in hell on earth. There are still some good women.”
@ChuuBlessing: “Before you marry a career woman, always think of a day like this cos she’ll definitely GROW in her career. The thought of her making it big should be a motivation for you to be bigger. However if instead of motivation, you feel insecure and want to keep her down, DON’T MARRY HER!”
@JoxyDave: “Except the woman has shown reasons for the man to believe the job will bring frustration to their home, otherwise he shouldn’t be an obstacle for his wife. People like Dr. Okonjo is still married yet holding her place in the society.”
