Public Relations Officer of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Elom Iyke Ubochi has countered claims made by Dele Farotimi against the Nigerian Judiciary.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Elom expressed his reservations about Farotimi’s assertions, stating that

“with due respect to Dele Farotimi, he wants Nigerians and the world to believe that the entire Nigerian Criminal Justice System is corrupt and irredeemable because of his single experience in a family land case?”

Iyke argued that it is unfair to generalize the entire judiciary based on one person’s experience.

“You can’t criminalize the entire system because of the alleged antics of a few people,” he wrote.

He also questioned Farotimi’s motives, asking “must Dele Farotimi and his likes win for the Nigerian Judiciary to be above board?”

Iyke pointed out that there are many Nigerians who have received favorable judgments from the courts without incident.

The University spokesman concluded by highlighting the inconsistency in the reactions of those who condemned the invasion of Supreme Court judges’ homes by the DSS during the Buhari administration, but are now hailing Farotimi for his criticisms of the judiciary.

“So, what has changed?” he asked.

DELE FAROTIMI AND HIS ACCUSATIIN

With due respect to Dele Farotimi, he wants Nigerians and the world to believe that the entire Nigerian Criminal Justice System is corrupt and irredeemable because of his single experience in a family land case ?

What an affront to our collective intelligence? And I shudder that some people are even clapping for such lopsided and unclarified assumptions, simply because his treatise is against the establishment.

I don’t join the bandwagon. I can not make my decision based on the perception of a single individual, no matter who he is or how truthful or intelligent he may claim to be. No rational.thinker should do. Yes, there are bag eggs in every profession, in.every facets of human life and in every country. But you can not criminalise the entire system because of the alleged antics of a few people.

The criminal judicial system of a country of over 200m people, with great legal minds and justices, can not just be written offf because one lawyer lost a family land case, in which he didn’t not even.appear in the supreme court for his clients. That will be spurious.

We can’t be picking and choosing. Your clients lost a case? And so what? Must you win for the Judiciary to be transparent? Such a mentality is absurd and medieval. There are thousands of Nigerians getting judgements from our courts every day but no one talks about them. Must Dele Farotimi and his likes win for the Nigerian Judiciary to be above board like the Ceasar’s wife?

Finally, during Buhari’s administration, DSS invaded the houses of some supreme Court judges on accusation of corruption without any evidence. Most of the people that condemned that action are now hailing Farotimi, who also published a book where he rubbished the Nigerian Judiciary without evidence. So. What has changed?
