Trump Orders Immediate Firing of Remaining Biden-Era U.S. Attorneys

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he has directed the firing of all remaining U.S. attorneys appointed during President Joe Biden’s administration, calling for a swift overhaul of the Department of Justice.

“Over the past four years, the Department of Justice has been politicized like never before,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform. “Therefore, I have instructed the termination of ALL remaining ‘Biden Era’ U.S. Attorneys,” he said.

Trump emphasized that it was crucial to “clean house IMMEDIATELY” in order to restore trust in the justice system. “America’s Golden Age must have a fair Justice System– THAT BEGINS TODAY!” he added, signaling a dramatic shift in the nation’s legal leadership.

Under normal circumstances, incoming presidents typically replace federal prosecutors, known as U.S. attorneys, who were nominated by their predecessors.

There are 93 U.S. attorneys overseeing the 94 federal districts in the United States, and they serve as the highest-ranking federal law enforcement officials in their districts. Two districts share a U.S. attorney.

Following Trump’s 2020 election victory, several U.S. attorneys appointed by Biden’s administration preemptively resigned, expecting they would be replaced.

Trump’s ongoing battle with the Justice Department, which he has accused of bias in its prosecution of him, has triggered an unprecedented reshuffling of top officials since his return to office, including the dismissal, demotion, and reassignment of several key figures.

Among those removed were personnel from the office of Special Counsel Jack Smith, the prosecutor behind the now-dropped criminal cases against Trump.

Last week, the acting U.S. attorney for the influential Southern District of New York, a Trump appointee, resigned after being pressured by the Justice Department to drop corruption charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams.

This latest move marks a bold step in Trump’s continued push to reshape federal law enforcement and redefine the Department of Justice under his administration.
