Sanwo-Olu Denies Rift with Tinubu, Calls Him a Father Figure

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has dismissed widespread speculations of a fallout with President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that their relationship remains strong and rooted in mutual respect.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu described the President as both a father and mentor, asserting that there is no discord between them. “There is nothing at all; he is my father, he is my leader, and we’re grateful that he has given us audience today,” the governor said.

Rumours of a strained relationship gained traction last week following an incident during the inauguration of the Lagos-Calabar Expressway Phase 1. A viral video from the event appeared to show President Tinubu bypassing Sanwo-Olu during a round of greetings.

In the footage, Sanwo-Olu was seen bowing slightly as the President approached, only for Tinubu to move past him and shake hands with Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, instead.

The perceived snub sparked online commentary and media speculation about a possible falling-out between the two Lagos political figures, with some reports suggesting lingering tension behind the scenes.

However, in a bid to quell the narrative, the President reportedly reassured Sanwo-Olu that any previous grievances had been resolved.

ASIWAJU MEDIA reports that Tinubu conveyed this message during a meeting with members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), who visited him to intercede on behalf of the governor and others believed to have fallen out of favour.

GAC Chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, confirmed the visit and acknowledged that Tinubu had previously been displeased with certain individuals in Lagos, including Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Despite the controversy, both camps now appear eager to present a united front, signaling that any perceived friction has been addressed behind closed doors.
