Tinubu Directs Lagos Lawmakers to Reinstate Obasa as Speaker Holds Onto Official Lodge

President Bola Tinubu has urged members of the Lagos State House of Assembly to reinstate Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, weeks after his impeachment sent ripples through the state’s political arena.

The president reportedly advised lawmakers this weekend to reconsider their decision, citing the political fallout of Obasa’s removal as potentially greater than the need to punish him for alleged corruption and abuse of office.

“The president has sent instruction that we should start preparing to let him come back,” a senior Lagos politician who attended high-level meetings over the weekend disclosed. “

The president said Obasa will spend only a short time before resigning on his terms.”

“We have agreed to let him come back to give him a soft landing that he told us he deserved because of the serious political consequences of allowing this matter to endure,” the politician said.

However, dissent remains among lawmakers who backed the impeachment, particularly those who shared reports that exposed Obasa’s alleged misconduct.

“We’re afraid that bringing him back will be like trying to pacify a snake after its head was severed,” a source remarked. “Its venom will be super deadly.”

Meanwhile, Tinubu has scheduled a crucial meeting in Abuja on Monday, where lawmakers who are yet to be convinced of Obasa’s return will be persuaded.

“Many of us have agreed that he should be allowed to return because we can only see the beginning of this fight but not how it may end,” a senior Lagos political figure noted.”

“The meeting is scheduled for Monday, and some of us still in Lagos are already preparing to leave for Abuja.”
