Speed Darlington Responds to NAPTIP Summons, Says Viral Video Was Just for Clout

Controversial singer and rapper, Speed Darlington, has issued a response after failing to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) regarding a viral video that stirred outrage online.
The artist, known for his provocative social media content, had triggered backlash after making statements that were widely interpreted as suggesting sexual involvement with a 15-year-old. Following the outrage, NAPTIP invited him to their Abuja headquarters for questioning. However, Speed Darlington did not honor the initial invitation, prompting the agency to reschedule the meeting for June 2.
In a formal letter addressed to NAPTIP and signed by his legal representatives, Speed Darlington—real name Darlington Okoye—maintained that his statements were purely for entertainment and did not reflect real-life actions.
He wrote in part:
“I have never engaged in, nor contemplated, any form of sexual violation or predatory behavior. The video in question was made solely for clout and entertainment. Unfortunately, a joke has been misinterpreted and exaggerated.”
He described himself as a law-abiding citizen raised with strong moral values, adding that he regrets any misunderstanding or offense caused by the clip.
The singer also indicated his willingness to cooperate with the authorities, stating that he would appear at NAPTIP’s office on June 26, 2025, if further clarification is needed.
While denying any wrongdoing, he extended a general apology to those offended by his remarks, emphasizing that the content had no connection to real-life events.
