Sokoto Governor Approves Free UTME Registration for Indigent Students

The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, has approved free registration for indigent students of the state, seeking admission into tertiary institutions through the 2025/2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE).

This was announced by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Isa Maishanu, on Friday. This, he said, conforms with the governor’s commitment to improving access to education in the state.

To further ease financial burdens, Governor Aliyu has also approved the payment of online registration fees for all beneficiaries.

According to Prof. Maishanu, the initiative is designed to help academically qualified but financially disadvantaged students secure admission into universities and other tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The distribution of JAMB/UTME and DE PINs will take place at the 23 local government secretariats in Sokoto State. Each beneficiary must visit their respective secretariat for necessary registration and obtain their registration pins.

The Ministry for Higher Education will oversee the process to ensure a smooth and transparent exercise. Only students who meet academic criteria of atleast credit in five relevant olevel subjects including Mathematics and English will be considered.

Candidates must generate a Profile Code by texting “NIN (space) followed by their eleven-digit National Identification Number (NIN) to 55019” before registration.

The ministry has urged all beneficiaries to study hard and take full advantage of this support.
