Simi Cautions Artists Against Signing New Talents for Showbiz Clout

Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, professionally known as Simi, has urged her colleagues in the music industry to be intentional and sincere when signing upcoming artists.

Speaking during an interview with media personality VJ Adams, the award-winning singer warned against signing new talents merely for prestige or as a career milestone.

I can sign an artist,” Simi said, “but it’s unfair to do it just to tick a box. For some, it’s just a passion project or something trendy, but for the person being signed, it’s their entire dream and future on the line.”

She emphasized that managing an artist requires more than hype or temporary interest—it demands commitment and a genuine investment in their growth and success.

“Even when things don’t go as planned—maybe the artist’s career isn’t taking off the way you expected, or the hit song didn’t hit—will you still be willing to support them?” she asked. “That’s the kind of dedication it takes.”

Drawing from her personal journey, Simi reflected on what it meant to be signed herself. “When I was getting signed, I always wondered—do they really believe in me, or am I just another statistic for their brand?” she said.

Her message is a call for greater responsibility and integrity in the music industry, especially from those in positions of power.
