Rivers Crisis: God has been our ultimate liberator – Gov Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has credited the state’s recent victory over political crises to divine intervention, acknowledging God as the ultimate liberator of the state and its people.
Speaking during the Christmas Ballad hosted by former Governor Dr. Peter Odili at his residence in Old GRA, Port Harcourt, on Friday evening, Governor Fubara reflected on the challenges that tested the state’s political stability.
He noted that the crisis provided him with invaluable lessons in leadership and strengthened his resolve, thanks to the unwavering support of Rivers people.
“And not just because I want to accept it, I get stronger in this course every day when I look at the support I am getting from the true Rivers people,” Fubara said. “My strength is drawn from every one of you that is here. You gave me encouragement; you do the work for me; you make the calls for me. So, why won’t I stand up for you?”

The governor emphasized the pivotal role of faith in the state’s triumph, saying, “We believe strongly that the ultimate game changer, the ultimate liberator, and the ultimate fighter remains God Almighty. And because we have Him on our side, victory is assured.”
Looking ahead to 2025, Governor Fubara expressed optimism, promising a prosperous year marked by progress and improved governance. He described the recent Christmas celebrations as a beacon of hope for brighter days in Rivers State.
The governor also stressed the importance of maintaining integrity in governance. He pledged to uphold the state’s reputation and avoid actions that could undermine its progress. Fubara thanked the steadfast leaders and citizens who resisted tyranny during the crises, describing their courage as crucial to the state’s recovery.
“We will continue to run a government that uplifts the image of the state. We will not be tyrants. We know that leadership is temporary, and when our time is up, we must leave the machine running smoothly for the next person to build upon,” he said.
Prominent figures at the event commended Fubara’s leadership during the tumultuous period.
Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, praised the governor for inspiring resilience during the assembly’s political challenges. Similarly, former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, lauded Fubara for blending his leadership style with the qualities of Dr. Peter Odili, bringing pride to Rivers people.
Dr. Peter Odili commended Governor Fubara for demonstrating fortitude during the crisis and restoring stability to governance. He likened Fubara’s efforts to his administration’s legacy of improved governance and civil service stability.
Justice Mary Odili presented gifts to the governor and his family, recognizing his significant contributions as an emancipator of Rivers State. She assured him of her family’s continued support for his administration.
In a vote of thanks, retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), praised the Odili family for fostering unity through the gathering. He also commended Governor Fubara’s humility and dedication, urging leaders to continue supporting his administration for the collective progress of the state.
