PhD Holder Who Earns a Miserable ₦70k Monthly in Ebonyi University
A PhD holder in Mathematics Education, Dr. Enyi Onyebuchi Paul, is earning a meager ₦70,000 per month as a cleaner in Ebonyi State University, ASIWAJU MEDIA Learnt.
According to a post shared on social media GodfreyChikwere, Dr. Paul’s case is a proof to the struggles faced by many individuals in Nigeria.
“Izzi big men, this is one of your brothers with PhD earning 70,000 a month in EBSU. In my quest to get assistance for Ebsu students at the Presco campus of the University because of the increasing spate of rape and robbery at that campus. I ran into this guy’s case, he is a PhD holder in Mathematics Education earning less than 70,000 per month in EBSU.”
The post further revealed that Dr. Paul has been working at EBSU since 2007, starting as a cleaner/messenger. Despite his impressive academic achievement, earning his PhD in 2022, he has been denied conversion to an academic staff position.
“EBSU should have converted this man and used him as a reference point for hard work, but he has no one who knows someone who knows another person. He is still a cleaner with a PhD.”
The situation has sparked outrage, with many calling it a shame and an example of the “disease of me, myself, and I” that plagues the system.
“He has met two principal officers to the current Governor from Izzi and a commissioner, and none of them could help. Shame.”
Chikwere concluded by calling on individuals from the Izzi community to intervene and support Dr. Paul’s cause.
“I call on well-meaning Izzi sons and daughters to see this as a challenge. He can’t even get a job elsewhere because he knows no one at the top.”
Dr. Paul’s academic journey is a testament to his determination and hard work. “Summary of his journey: B. SC. 2013 M SC. 2017 Ph. D. 2022.”
