Panic in Chito Town as Armed Bandits Launch Devastating Midnight Raid

Tension enveloped Chito town in the Adzendeshi Council Ward of Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State, in the early hours of Saturday following a violent invasion by heavily armed bandits.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, numbering over ten, stormed the Tse-Mamkaa Compound at approximately 2:26 a.m., subjecting residents to nearly an hour and a half of terror. The attackers reportedly beat family members, looted homes, and carted away a wide range of valuables.

Among the stolen items were clothes, footwear, foodstuffs, and even basic kitchen essentials such as salt, seasoning cubes, and flour, indicating a deliberate effort to strip the compound of all its resources.

Dr. Isaac H. Mamkaa, a lecturer at the Department of Political Science, College of Education, Katsina-Ala, confirmed the attack in a formal complaint addressed to security agencies and local authorities. He stated that two members of his family—Timothy T. Mamkaa and Nathaniel Mwuesega Mamkaa, the family head—sustained injuries during the brutal assault.

The compound of their grandfather, Kur Sev Adudu, was also raided in the coordinated attack.

Dr. Mamkaa raised the alarm over a chilling threat issued by the attackers during the invasion. According to him, the bandits vowed to return soon with an even more devastating assault, further deepening the fear and anxiety in the community.

“In view of the above… I appeal for your timely response and/or proactive action to avert the impending/looming calamity,” Dr. Mamkaa wrote in his appeal to the authorities.

As of the time this report was filed, there has been no official response from security agencies, and no arrests have been reported, leaving the community gripped by fear and uncertainty.
