Oyo Workers Rejoices As Makinde Began Minimum Wage Payment

The Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde has implemented the payment of the 80,000 as minimum wage for all civil servants in the state. The government workers in Oyo State have expressed their joy as the administration began the payment.

The Oyo state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, revealed this in a statement on Saturday, January 25 , 2025.  According to him, the state government has paid ₦12 billion to the civil servant to reflect the new minimum wage.

“In this same month of January, pensioners are not left behind in the comprehensive welfare. A minimum pension of ₦25,000 and a 33 percent pension increment for over 40,000 retirees have been approved with immediate effect,” he said.

He added that amount paid was a fulfillment of the promise made by Governor Seyi Makinde that the payment of the ₦80,000 minimum wage for the state workers would commence in January, 2025.

One of the implications of the new wage is that workers on Grade Levels I to VI now enjoy a minimum of ₦50,000 increment while the salaries of those on Grade Level 17 shoot up by over ₦180,000.

Meanwhile, the government workers in the state have commended the governor over the implementation of the minimum wage.

Intel Region reported that Usman Tijani reacting to the development said,  “Best Governor we have ever had. I trust you. Workers in Oyo state and Pensioners will always laugh best, Thank you for everything. He rejoiced 

Adekunbi Adelowo, a resident of the state reacted; “GSM you are too much we love you, God will continue to protect you and your family.

It is noted that Oyo State is one of the states that agreed to pay above N70,000 minimum wage approved by the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 29, 2024.
