NYSC Prioritizes Corps Welfare and Health Services
The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Lagos has sensitized Prospective Corps Members at the Lagos Orientation Camp on the Welfare and Health Services of the scheme rendered to corps members.
The Assistant Director, Corps Welfare and Health Services, Mrs. Oluwakemi Awolola, emphasized the scheme’s commitment to the welfare of Corps members.
While delivering a public lecture at the ongoing 2024 batch A stream II orientation exercise in Lagos, she pointed out the NYSC Management’s commitment to the welfare of PCMs throughout their service year, starting from mobilization.
She emphasized the establishment of a dedicated unit for welfare of corps members which oversees the overall welfare of every serving corps member throughout their 1 year service.
THE IMPORTANCE OF CORPS WELFARE AND HEALTH SERVICES
Awolola stated the dual importance of welfare and health services, carefully explaining each component to the PCMs.
She outlined In-camp and Post-camp provisions. In-camp welfare comprises of NYSC kits, accommodation, feeding and soon to be added allowances, while Post-camp welfare included Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) postings, accommodation entitlements, stipends and various leave categories such as Terminal, Maternity, Convocation, Wedding, Pilgrimage, and Sick leave.
She stressed the necessity for Corps Members to promptly inform officials in case of sickness or admission, highlighting the provision for NYSC officials to visit members on sick admission outside Lagos.
NYSC AND HEALTH INSURANCE
Mrs. Awolola assured PCMs of coverage under the NHIS health insurance scheme from the onset of their service.
She explained the presence of NHIS codes on individual corps member’s dashboards on the NYSC online portal, facilitating access to healthcare services.
In-camp health services, according to her, are made up of a team of medical professionals, including personnel from the Federal Medical Center; nurses and corps members medical personnel.
PCMs were advised to seek medical attention promptly for any signs or symptoms of illness. She added that Post-camp health services remain under NHIS coverage, allowing PCMs to access medical care at any hospital with their NHIS code.
ESSENCE OF ACCURATE DETAILS
Mrs. Awolola concluded by addressing the significance of accurately listing Next of Kin details.
She emphasized that Next of Kin should be closest living family members, not friends, and informed PCMs that they could rectify any errors in their Next of Kin information.
