The State Coordinator NYSC Lagos, Mrs Christiana Salmwang, has given the corps members guidelines for the service year while the 2024 Batch “C Stream II Orientation Course nears an end.

She urge corps members to stay committed to the values of discipline, responsibility, and service as they prepare to report to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA).

She gave these guidelines when debriefing the corps members and emphasized on the importance of timely documentation at both the Local government offices and PPAs, noting that corps members will either receive an acceptance or rejection letter, both of which must be submitted to their Local Government Inspector (LGI) for proper records.

In cases where late travel is unavoidable, she encouraged them to break the journey and take shelter at police stations, corpers’ lodges, or military barracks. She further stressed the need to always carry with them their identification card, and remain security-conscious by informing trusted individuals about their movements.

On accommodation, she stated that PPAs are expected to provide housing for corps members. Hvowever, where this is not possible, money in lieu should be paid. She urged corps members to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities, embrace the NYSC dress code, and wear their uniforms with pride, as no other attire is a substitute for the official NYSC uniform.

She reiterated the importance of monthly biometric clearance, emphasizing that failure to participate would result in non-payment of allowances. Additionally, corps members experiencing health challenges should promptly inform their Zonal Inspectors and LGIs to avoid complications.

She highlighted that officials will conduct periodic visits to PPAs to ensure compliance.

She emphasized on the importance of Community Development Service (CDS), encouraging corps members to leave lasting legacies through meaningful projects that will positively impact their host communities.

As the camp prepares for its official closing, she encourages corps members to cherish the friendships and networks they have built, as these connections could be valuable in the future. She urged them to be patient, make the best of their youth, and approach their service year with diligence, responsibility, and a commitment to national unity.
