NYSC Begins Disbursement of ₦44,000 Arrears to Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commenced the payment of ₦44,000 in arrears to both serving and former corps members, in line with the recently approved increase in monthly allowances.
The arrears cover the period from July 2024—when the federal government approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000, along with a 10% increment for corps members—up until March 2025, when the new ₦77,000 allowance officially took effect.
NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, confirmed the development and stated that the payments are being made in batches. He reassured all eligible corps members that they will receive their due entitlements, including those who have completed their service.
“We have the necessary bank details of all concerned, and every qualified corps member will be paid accordingly,” Nafiu said.
Many corps members had expressed frustration over the delay in implementing the new payment structure, as they continued to receive the former ₦33,000 stipend. However, the ongoing disbursement of arrears has sparked widespread relief, with several ex-corps members already confirming receipt of the payment on social media.
This marks a fulfillment of the Federal Government’s promise to align corps members’ stipends with the updated national minimum wage, reinforcing its commitment to youth welfare and national service.
