Nigerian Police to be blamed for Recent Stampede Deaths – Falana

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has held the Nigerian Police Force responsible for the recent deaths caused by stampedes in Oyo, Abuja, and Anambra states.
Speaking on Friday during a lecture in Akure in honor of the late former Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Falana criticized the Nigerian Police for failing to fulfill their constitutional duties.
Describing the deaths as unacceptable, Falana said, “The deaths of 115 Nigerians in recent incidents in Ibadan, Abuja, and Okija are unacceptable. The Police failed to protect the people, and I hold them responsible. The government must compensate the families who lost their loved ones because of these failures.”
He also urged the government to address widespread social insecurity, citing the worsening poverty, unemployment, and hunger as key contributors to the tragic incidents.
According to reports gathered by Asiwaju Media, 35 children died at a funfair in Ibadan, 29 were marched to death during a palliative distribution in Okija, and 10 lost their lives in a stampede at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Abuja.
