Man High on Colos Mistakes Neighbour for Sacrificial Ram, Stabs Him in Ebonyi

A 24-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Ebonyi State after allegedly stabbing his neighbour under the influence of a psychoactive substance popularly known as “Colos.”

According to a Facebook post by prominent Ebonyi-based lawyer, Ugama Steve, the suspect was brought to the state police headquarters following a bizarre incident that nearly turned fatal.

The young man, whose identity has not yet been released, reportedly told officers that after smoking the substance, he began hallucinating and claimed to be interacting with “spirits in white garments.”

The suspect allegedly told investigators that these so-called spirits warmly received him and promised to make him wealthy — on the condition that he performed a sacrificial ritual involving a ram. The hallucination escalated when the voices directed him to retrieve a knife and attack his neighbour, whom he mistook for the sacrificial ram.

He ambushed the unsuspecting man at the gate of their residence just as the latter was about to drive out. The victim sustained serious injuries before bystanders overpowered the attacker and disarmed him. The injured man is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Police have since taken the attacker into custody. While his state of mind has reportedly stabilized, authorities say he has failed to “produce the spirits in white garments” that he claimed instructed the violent act. He now faces a charge of attempted murder.

In a moment of sober reflection, the suspect reportedly blamed “the innocent devil” for enticing him to take the drug. However, legal experts say that while drug-induced psychosis may be argued as a defence in court, it would depend heavily on the evidence presented.

Lawyer Ugama Steve, who shared the account online, issued a strong warning against drug abuse. “Say no to hard drugs,” he wrote. “Highness can only last for a moment, but the consequences of your actions can ruin your life forever.”
