Makinde Fulfills Promise, Pays 13th-Month Salary to Workers

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has fulfilled his promise by paying the 13th-month salary to Oyo state workers. The payment, made on Monday evening, brought joy to workers across the state.

Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Oyo, Comrade Kayode Martins, praised the governor for his commitment to workers’ welfare. He described Makinde as the most worker-friendly governor of this era.

This marks the sixth consecutive time Makinde’s administration has paid the 13th-month salary. Workers had earlier received their December salary and a wage award before this additional payment.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, explained the government’s financial commitment. He revealed that Oyo State spends ₦77 billion annually on salaries and wages.

Recently, the governor approved a new ₦80,000 minimum wage after negotiations. With this increase, the state’s annual salary and wage expenditure will rise to ₦143 billion.

Oyelade stated that this adjustment represents an 86% increase in salaries. He assured workers that the government remains committed to improving their welfare despite financial challenges.

Workers and pensioners in the state expressed gratitude for the governor’s gesture. Many described the payment as a timely boost to their finances amid rising living costs.
