Lagos Government Warns Against Prank Calls to Fire Service

The Lagos State Government has cautioned residents against making prank calls to the Fire and Rescue Service. Officials say false alarms endanger public safety and waste valuable emergency resources.

Commissioner for Special Duties, Gbenga Oyerinde, identified prank calls as a major issue the service is facing. He revealed that, in 2024, 578 out of 1,952 emergency calls received by the agency were false alarms.

Oyerinde spoke at the 2025 Annual Staff Engagement of the Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service in Ikeja. He commended firefighters for their hardwork and urged them to remain dedicated to public safety.

Representing Oyerinde, a ministry director, Olumide Williams,  explained the importance of fire prevention. He stressed that proactive safety education and risk reduction efforts are crucial in saving lives and reducing property damage.

Permanent Secretary Sesan Ogundeko warned that prank calls disrupt operations and culprits would face legal consequences.
