Kano Governor Empowers 2,386 Women with Livestock Distribution Worth ₦2.3 Billion

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has distributed 7,158 goats (Livestock ) to empower 2,386 women. The initiative, worth ₦2.3 billion, was said to be aimed at  boosting economic opportunities through the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP).

The program, announced on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, is part of the women’s empowerment scheme under KSADP’s Livestock Fattening Programme. It covers all 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

Each beneficiary received three goats to help them establish livestock businesses. The governor assured that more phases will follow, with plans to distribute 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams.

During the flag-off ceremony, Governor Yusuf assured the residents of Kano of administration’s goal of  reducing poverty and empowering women and youth. He described the initiative as a pathway to economic independence.

He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the livestock effectively and warned against selling them for unintended purposes.

According to him, the program integrates women and youth into the agricultural value chain, enhancing household income and reducing reliance on government support.

KSADP is a five-year project funded by the Islamic Development Bank, the Lives and Livelihood Funds, and the Kano State government. It aims to support 450,000 farmers across 44 LGAs.

The project focuses on improving agricultural productivity through access to inputs, value addition, market access, and capacity building. It seeks to enhance competitiveness in the agricultural sector.
