 Kalu congratulates new Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide

The most recent President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu died on July 25, 2024. In December 2024, Fidelis Chukwu was appointed as the President-General, temporarily replacing Iwuanyanwu

The Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu, has congratulated Senator John Azuta-Mbata on his unanimous election as the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

Senator Azuta-Mbata, a former senator representing Rivers East Senatorial Zone, was elected by the General Assembly of the apex socio-cultural organization of Ndigbo in Enugu State on Friday.

Mr. Kalu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Levinus Nwabughiogu, commended the organisation and the South East Governors’ Forum for ensuring a free and fair election.

The Deputy Speaker expressed confidence in Azuta-Mbata’s ability to bring his wealth of experience to bear in his new role, given his background as a former member of the National Assembly.

He urged the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide to work assiduously to strengthen unity and faith among the Igbo people, while also building bridges with other socio-cultural groups to maintain peace in the country.

Mr. Kalu emphasised the need for synergy amongst all stakeholders in Ala Igbo to accelerate the development of the area and its people.

He pointed out that only collective effort and cooperation can achieve meaningful progress.

The Deputy Speaker pledged his support as a worthy ambassador of the Igbo nation, extending the courtesies of his office to the new President-General and the new executive members of the organisation.
