Fire Destroys Goods Worth Millions in Anambra Market

A midnight fire outbreak destroyed goods worth millions of naira at Ahịa Mgbede, opposite the New Motor Spare Parts Market in Nnewi, Anambra State, plunging business owners into despair.

The fire started early Tuesday morning, leaving shops and properties in ruins. Eyewitnesses revealed that the fire raged for several minutes before firefighters arrived, as victims struggled to salvage items.

One victim, identified as Uche, expressed heartbreak, saying, “We arrived to find our shops reduced to rubble. The loss is devastating.” He added that the cause of the Fire outbreak remains unknown.

The Anambra State fire Service confirmed the incident. According to Fire Chief Chukwudi Chiketa, firefighters from Nnewi and Ogidi stations were deployed immediately but faced challenges as the fire reignited.

The fire service urged the public to adopt fire safety measures and promptly report outbreaks. “Fire is dangerous but preventable. Early reporting ensures timely intervention,” Chiketa said.

As of the time of this report, no casualties have been recorded, but the impact on affected businesses is immense.
