Adanma Luke, a Nigerian filmmaker, has shared her emotional struggles after the death of actor Junior Pope, who died in a boat accident on April 10, 2024. Pope, who was traveling to a movie location on the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State, lost his life alongside four other crew members, leaving the entertainment industry in mourning.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Adanma revealed how the tragedy plunged her into depression and led to thoughts of suicide. She said the overwhelming backlash from social media and families of the deceased added to her pain.

The filmmaker described the weeks following the accident as a “very dark” time in her life. She had to stop breastfeeding her three-month-old baby due to the emotional toll and was temporarily separated from her child by her mother to prevent further distress.

Adanma credited fellow producer Uche Nancy for helping her through this difficult period. She expressed deep gratitude for Uche’s emotional and financial support, which she said saved her life.

“With so much tears in my eyes, after so much pressure and expenses in April, I reached out to this beautiful soul @uchenancy, and she said, ‘Ada, don’t worry. I dey for you.’ She spoke to me like she was in my shoes, encouraging me to stay alive and strong,” Adanma wrote.

She went on to explain how Uche’s words and actions lifted her spirit, even as she felt hopeless and overwhelmed by sadness.

Adanma ended her post by asking her followers to pray for Uche Nancy, praising her kindness and unwavering support. “Please help me say a kind prayer for this beautiful soul @uchenancy… She didn’t just help me financially but made sure I’m doing okay till now,” she wrote.

The film industry continues to grieve the loss of Junior Pope and the other crew members, but Adanma’s story highlights the importance of emotional support during life’s darkest moments.
