The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, according to a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on the occasion, which marks 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule in the country.

“June 12 represents our historic journey toward building a nation where truth and justice reign, peace is sustained, and our future is assured,” he said. “The last 26 years tell the story of our resilience, strength, and courage, and a hope renewed more than ever.”

The minister emphasized that democracy thrives through continuous improvement and reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to democratic ideals.

He noted that the Renewed Hope government remains dedicated to the universal values of democracy, rooted in the freely expressed will of the people in shaping Nigeria’s political, economic, social, and cultural direction.
