FG Begins Construction of 5KV Solar Power Project at MAU Yola

The federal government has started constructing a 5KV solar power system at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Adamawa stay to address electricity challenges in the university. 

Vice-Chancellor Professor Ibrahim Umar revealed this during a visit by his University of Maiduguri ’89 set course mates.

The Vice-Chancellor claimed that the university currently spends 850 million naira annually on electricity from its 1.2 billion naira allocation, a he described as unsustainable.

According to him, the solar project is expected to be completed and commissioned by April or early May, easing the university’s financial burden.

After the project’s completion, the university will supply electricity to surrounding host communities, creating a sustainable energy model for the region.

Professor Umar also listed several achievements under his six-month leadership, including the establishment of three new faculties and NUC accreditation of three others.

He announced new degree programs, including forensic sciences and faculties of law and medicine, scheduled to commence in the 2025/26 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor appealed to Vice President Kashim Shettima, a member of the ’89 set, to support the university’s progress.

Attendees praised the Vice-Chancellor’s accomplishments and urged both him and the Vice President to proudly represent their cohort with hard work and integrity in their respective offices.
