FAAN suspends Enugu Airport operations over Runway rupture

All flights into Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu have been suspended following a temporary closure for emergency runway repairs.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced that all flights scheduled for Enugu will be diverted to nearby airports during this period.
According to FAAN, the repairs became necessary due to a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.
FAAN Spokeswoman, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, stated that the emergency repairs will be carried out from April 22 to May 6, 2025.
She noted that the closure is in compliance with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, and as such, the runway will be completely shut to all flight operations, both landings and takeoffs, throughout the repair period.
“As part of FAAN’s commitment to passenger safety and the modernization of airport facilities, the runway will remain closed for the duration of the rehabilitation,” Mrs. Orah said.
FAAN has appealed to all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.
