Amotekun Thwarts Robbery in Ogun, Rescues Gunshot Victim in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Amotekun Corps, Ewekoro Command, successfully foiled a robbery attempt and rescued a 28-year-old gunshot victim in the early hours of Saturday in Akinale, a community in Ewekoro Local Government Area.

The victim, identified as Opeyemi Olusanya, sustained a gunshot wound to the upper part of his left limb at around 1:20 a.m. He was discovered lying in a pool of blood and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Obada-Oko for urgent medical care.

According to the Deputy Commander of the Corps, Col. Tajudeen Bakare (rtd), the operation was initiated following a distress call from a concerned resident of the area. Upon arrival, the Amotekun officers encountered the armed robbers who attempted to flee the scene in a wine-colored Kia Cerato with registration number KRD 840 JS. The vehicle was later traced to one Ariwoola Abiola Wasiu of Ifesowapo Estate, Adunbu, Itori.

The robbers abandoned the car and escaped into the surrounding bush with several stolen valuables, including eight high-end mobile phones, two laptops, jewelry, and cash amounting to ₦54,000.

“The prompt response of the Amotekun operatives forced the robbers to abandon their operational vehicle as they fled into the bush,” Bakare stated. “Though the suspects escaped, we successfully recovered the vehicle used in the attempted robbery.”

He further disclosed that the recovered vehicle has since been handed over to the Itori Police Division, while a thorough investigation into the incident and efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.

Bakare emphasized that the swift intervention by the Amotekun Corps underscores its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ogun State.
