Aliyu Audu Resigns as Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs

Aliyu Audu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Public Affairs, has announced his resignation from the role, effective immediately.

In a letter dated June 8, 2025, and submitted through the office of the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Audu expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve under the Tinubu administration. He described his time in office as an honour and thanked the President for entrusting him with the responsibility of contributing to the government’s public communication efforts.

While the letter did not go into full detail about the reasons behind his decision, Audu hinted at deeper concerns, stating that his conscience would not allow him to be “a tool to reduce Nigeria to a one-party state.” He framed his resignation as a principled stand in defence of democratic values.

As of the time of this report, the Presidency has not issued an official response to his departure.
