A tragic incident unfolded in the French Quarter of New Orleans on Wednesday afternoon when a vehicle ploughed into a crowded area on Bourbon Street, killing 10 people and injuring 30 others.
The attack occurred around 3:15 p.m. local time, in the popular tourist destination, when the vehicle sped through a dense crowd. Witnesses reported that the driver exited the vehicle and began shooting at pedestrians.
New Orleans Police Superintendent, Anne Kirkpatrick described the incident as “very intentional.”
“This man was trying to run over as many people as he possibly could,” she said.
The FBI has taken over the investigation. Special Agent Althea Duncan confirmed that the incident is not currently classified as a terrorist attack. However, improvised explosive devices were discovered at the scene and are being examined for viability. Duncan urged the public to avoid the area while investigations continue.

Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the victims, most of whom are believed to be local residents. The death toll and injury count could change as investigations progress.
Officials are working to determine the motive behind the attack and to ensure public safety. The city remains on high alert as investigators gather evidence and assess the scene.
