YEIDEP Committee Set to Oversee N500k Grants and Business Support

The Federal Government has officially launched the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalisation Programme (YEIDEP), a bold new initiative aimed at empowering young Nigerians through business grants, technical training, and long-term mentorship. Already, over five million applications have been submitted—making it one of the most ambitious youth-focused programmes in the country’s history.
The launch, which took place in Abuja, saw government officials unveil a dedicated YEIDEP committee tasked with managing the enormous response. This committee is responsible for ensuring transparency, timely delivery of funds, and comprehensive support for selected participants throughout the program.
According to the Minister of Youth Development, who was represented at the event, the committee’s responsibilities extend beyond disbursement. They are expected to monitor the businesses, provide consistent mentorship, and evaluate outcomes to ensure the programme delivers measurable impact.
The national coordinator of YEIDEP stated that Nigeria’s youth form a critical segment of the nation’s economic future, and their overwhelming response to the programme shows a strong desire for opportunity, not just financial aid. The Permanent Secretary, also represented at the event, described the high number of applications as proof that young Nigerians are hungry for meaningful change and growth.
YEIDEP offers more than just financial support. Beneficiaries will receive non-refundable grants of up to ₦500,000 to support small businesses, particularly in sectors like agribusiness and agro-processing. The programme also includes training in entrepreneurship, technical skills, and continued mentorship to guide beneficiaries as they grow their ventures. Each business will be closely monitored to ensure success and sustainability.
The next phase involves the review of the more than five million applications, shortlisting eligible candidates, sending direct payments to verified bank accounts, enrolling youth in training programs, and establishing a system of ongoing support. These steps are designed to prevent mismanagement and ensure that only deserving candidates benefit from the intervention.
YEIDEP is being launched at a time when Nigeria is facing high youth unemployment, rising restlessness among jobless young people, and a growing need for sustainable job creation. If successfully implemented, the programme could significantly boost youth-led enterprises, reduce crime and dependency, and drive inclusive economic recovery.
However, the weight of this hope rests heavily on the YEIDEP committee. Their ability to ensure a fair selection process, avoid funding delays, implement proper training, and maintain post-funding support will determine the programme’s success. Their work could also help rebuild the strained relationship between government and youth by proving that impactful policies can be delivered with sincerity and accountability.
As Nigeria pushes forward with this ₦120 billion youth-focused initiative, which also includes a separate ₦45,000 monthly grant under the TVET plan, the message is clear: this is not just another government promise. For many young Nigerians, it is a long-awaited opportunity—and one that the country must not
afford to waste.
