UK Parliament backs Assisted Dying bill

The UK Parliament has voted in favor of a bill that could legalize assisted dying for terminally ill adults.
According to supporters of the “Terminally ill Adults (End of Life)” on Friday, the bill provides dignity to the dying and prevents unnecessary suffering.
A majority of lawmakers, 330 to 275 who voted in support of the bill, also said it will allow mentally competent adults in England and Wales who have a terminal illness and are expected to live for six months or less the right to choose medically assisted death.
Meanwhile, Opponents of the bill said patients could be subject to coercion and raised alarm about the level of scrutiny the bill was receiving. The issue has sparked a national conversation, with strong arguments from both sides.
However, the bill still faces significant hurdles before it becomes law, including additional parliamentary scrutiny and public debate.
