There Is No Break In Service Year – NYSC Official

The Assistant Director and Head of Corps Inspection and Monitoring(CIM) branch, NYSC Lagos, Mrs. Itohan Ehimwenma have told Lagos corps members at the ongoing 2023 Batch “C” Stream I corps members at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, that there is no break during service.
Mrs. stated this while delivering Inspection and Monitoring (CIM) lecture in Lagos on Monday.
According to her, every day during service counts, emphasizing that once a corps member begins service, such must complete it to avoid disciplinary issues.
While speaking on the role of Corps Inspection and Monitoring during service year, she noted that the Branch plays a crucial role in ensuring that all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members successfully fulfill their service obligations and qualify for the Certificate of National Service, adding that the CIM conducts regular inspections, including general, monthly, quarterly, and impromptu visits to monitor the performance and well-being of corps members.
These inspections according to the Assistant Director, serve as a vital tool for identifying and addressing potential issues promptly such as truancy, conflicts, and other issues, ensuring that corps members receive the necessary support and guidance throughout their service year. She emphasized that l following the orientation course, corps members are required to report to their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) and actively participate in their assigned Community Development Service (CDS) groups.
She added that, to maintain eligibility for their monthly allowance, corps members must participate in the mandatory biometric verification at designated locations(Local offices).
According to her, In the event of rejection by their Place of Primary Assignment, corps members should promptly report to the Local Government Inspector (LGI) for immediate reposting to another place of work.
She noted that the Local Government Inspector will work diligently to secure an alternative Place of Primary Assignment that aligns with the corps member’s skills and interests, ensuring that they make a meaningful contribution during their service year. While ending her lecture, Mrs Ehimwenma introduced the Zonal Inspectors and Local Inspectors to the corps members.
