Tems Honored with Diamond Award at Billboard Global Power Players Event in London

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has received the Diamond Award at the inaugural Billboard Global Power Players event, held at Shoreditch House in East London.
The award was presented by Nkosiyati Khumalo, the incoming editor of Billboard Africa, during a night dedicated to celebrating major figures influencing the global music scene.
In her acceptance speech, Tems spoke on the importance of the recognition:
“Being African and a musician is a whole new world, and I feel like Billboard has been incredibly supportive—not just of African music, but the culture as a whole. This is such a great honor, especially as African music is reaching heights never seen before. Billboard is truly helping move that needle forward.”
Other honorees included British music legend Sir Elton John, who received the Creators’ Champion Award, and EMPIRE founder and CEO Ghazi Shami, who was given the Clive Davis Visionary Award by Nigerian rap star and YBNL boss, Olamide.
The event also marked the debut of Billboard’s UK Power Players chart, spotlighting influential individuals and reaffirming the growing global impact of African talents like Tems, who continues to blaze a trail on the international stage.
