Speaker Dr. Tajudeen Abbas Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Growth in Nigeria

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, has shown total commitment towards empowering and including women in politics and governance as the world marks International Women’s Day (IWD).
Dr. Tajudeen Abbas in his congratulatory message to women in Nigeria, Africa, and across the world, noted that women are critical stakeholders in community and National development.
He stated his strong passion for women’s growth and development prompted revisiting the passage of gender-related bills in the ongoing amendments to the 1999 Constitution.
On his part, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu praised the strength of Nigerian women.
Mr. Kalu recognized the invaluable role women plays in advancing the progress of the country, noting that the theme of this year’s IWD “Inspire Inclusion,” collaborates with the agenda of the 10th House of Representatives to improve women’s political representation.
The Deputy Speaker said the House Committee on Constitution Review, which he chairs, will ensure the exercise addresses the issue of gender imbalance.
Also, the wife of the president, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called for adequate investment in women to accelerate national development.
She said this year’s theme is a call for action “The theme this year resonates deeply – “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.”. It’s a call to action.
“This is the time to invest in women more than ever. Accelerating progress in any sphere requires that women have to be more involved”. She said
“Today, on International Women’s Day, I celebrate every woman – Daughters, Sisters, Aunts, Mothers, Grandmothers and also Great grand Mothers, for your resilience, passion, and courage that brought us thus far.
“That is why I see investing in women, not as charity, but as a strategy to build the future of our dear nation, Nigeria. Equipping you with education, resources, and opportunities to unleash your full potential, supporting your businesses, helping to dismantle economic barriers, and ensuring your voices are heard is a very crucial step.
